Bhubaneswar: The block grant teachers agitating for full grant to schools today heaped a sigh of relief after School and Mass Education Minister Rabi Nanda informed the Assembly today that the schools will soon get grant-in-aid instead of block grant.

Odisha School teachers Association welcomed the decision of the government and decided to call off stir. The association declared to re-open block grant schools which were closed for last couple of days and to resume classes from tomorrow.

Minister Rabi Nanda today told Assembly that the grant-in-aid policy will come up by February 2013. He said the schools functioning under block grant system for last eight years would be given priorities in the grant-in-aid system. It would benefit over 25,000 block grant high school teachers of 1982 schools.

Notably, the teachers association has been demanding abolition of block grant system and introduction full grant to schools for long. The teachers laid siege to the MLA quarters recently a day after the bloody battle with police at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here during teachers’ rally.
