Ganjam: The Ganjam Lawyers’ Association resorted to cease-work strike from today protesting the alleged assault of lawyer Haraprasad Das by cops inside Buguda Police Station in the district.

As per sources, due to the cease-work stir by the lawyers, works in different courts across the district were severely affected.

Reportedly, after holding discussions with the Buguda Lawyers’ Association, a team of the district lawyers’ body lodged an FIR at Buguda Police Station on Wednesday in connection with the issue.

“We want the suspension and arrest of the police officials who were involved in the attack. If our demands are not fulfilled at the earliest, we will resort to state-wide stir,” President of Ganjam Lawyers Association, Mohan Singhari said.

On the other hand, after the incident, Inspector In-Charge of Buguda Police Station, Ramchandra Biswal has been transferred to the District Reserve Police office today.

DGP RP Sharma on Wednesday informed that DIG (Southern Range) Ashish Singh and Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Kumar Ray have been directed to initiate an investigation into the alleged assault incident.

“The DIG (southern range) and SP have been directed to immediately launch an investigation and after they submit a report, appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused,” Sharma said.

Notably on November 13, lawyer Haraprasad Das was injured and admitted to Buguda Community Health Centre after being allegedly thrashed by police personnel inside Buguda Police Station.
