Jharsuguda: Family members of arrested ex-MLA from Odisha Anup Sai today called off their protest after around 22 hours following a meeting with the district Collector.

As per reports, Sai’s wife, son, daughter, brother and other family members had staged a protest in front of the Jharsuguda district collector office on Saturday. The family members had threatened to commit mass suicide alleging danger to their lives after receiving multiple notices from Raigarh police for interrogation purpose. They also alleged that cops from Chakradharnagar Police station of Raigarh were threatening them. Family members of Sai have demanded CBI inquiry of the Hamirpur double murder case under which Sai has been booked. Furthermore, the family members have also demanded security and due justice in Sai’s case.

“We won’t create trouble in inquiry and will support the officials. We just want CBI probe into the case which will unravel the truth,” said Anup’s elder brother, Pramod Sai.

“The family members have alleged that the police officials are troubling them at mid-night for interrogation in connection with Sai’s link in the case, which is not acceptable. I will forward their complaint to State Home Department,” informed Saroj Samal, District Collector, Jharsuguda.

However, Raigarh police have refuted the allegations in the matter.

It may be noted that Anup Sai was arrested on February 14 for his suspected involvement in the murder of a woman Kalpana Das and her minor daughter Pravati in April 2016 in the border area of Jharsuguda. Later the bodies of the woman-daughter duo were allegedly disposed of in Chhattisgarh. Sai had reportedly confessed of being the prime accused in the crime. Later, police had detained Sai’s driver Burdhan Toppo for helping in murdering and disposing their bodies.
