Bhubaneswar:  The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has registered itself as the largest freight loading railway zone of Indian Railways till August this year by loading 61.83 million tonnes of freight against 52.28 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.
 
This translates to an increase in freight loading of 18.3%, an official release said.
 
During this period, while South East Central Railway has recorded freight loading of 60.98 million tones, South Eastern Railway registered 55.47 million tonnes of freight, it added.
 
During August only, the division has loaded 12.41 million tonnes of freight registering an increase of 26.4% compared to August last year, the release stated.
 
Besides, from the first five months of the current financial year, the zone has earned Rs 4878.46 crore, a rise of 18% compared to the corresponding period last year. ECoR had earned Rs 4127.02 crore during the first five months of last financial year.
 
In August month only, ECoR has earned Rs 932.28 crore in originating goods earning as compared to 754.27 crores achieved in August 2012 by registering an increase of 23.6%.
 
It said, during the month of August only, South East Central Railway loaded 11.465 million tonnes and South Eastern Railway loaded 11.05 million tonnes of freight, while ECoR loaded 12.41 million tonnes.
