Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: After almost a week of Durga Puja festivities, Odisha bid adieu to Goddess Durga following the mega idol immersion ceremony on Saturday.

Amid music and dance the idols were taken in a procession for immersion across the State today. Crowd in large numbers witnessed the immersion ceremony as the idols were ushered out of their pandals and taken to the immersion yard on specially designed tableaus. Fireworks, cultural progarmmes and light shows were the special attractions.

Specials arrangements were made by the puja committees, the Cuttack and Bhubaneswar administrations as well as the Commissionerate Police for the immersion ceremony.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) came up with two large artificial ponds on the banks of Kuakhai and Daya rivers to ensure that water bodies will not get polluted during the immersion process.

The smart city was divided into four zones for hassle-free conduct of the idol immersion of around 175 mandaps.

Two gigantic artificial ponds were created by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) at Debigada Ghat in which 160 idols of various mandaps of the city will be immersed.

Meanwhile, Commissionerate Police tightened the security arrangements in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar for the ceremony.
