Bolangir: The ongoing agitation for a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Bolangir intensified with the joint action committee (JAC) and the district bar association calling for a week-long bandh from December 24. As per sources, the agitating lawyers have called for closure of all schools, educational institutions, banks and government offices till December 30.

“All the offices of the State and the central government will remain closed till December 30 in Bolangir,” said JAC convenor, Lalit Kumar Nayak.

It is pertinent to mention here that JAC and district bar association are spearheading the agitation since December 3 for the establishment of a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in Bolangir. It is now almost 15 days that all the work in tehsil offices and courts in the district have come to a grinding halt.

“At the meeting held today, we have decided to continue our agitation and want re-establishment of the Orissa High Court bench in Bolangir,” said Bolangir district bar association president, Ashok Mohanty.
