Cuttack: Taking suo motu cognizance of the bus mishap in Cuttack yesterday, police registered a case against the driver of the vehicle today.

As per sources, the case has been registered against driver Khageswara Muduli, who is undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Besides, the State government has formed a three-member committee led by the Cuttack Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) to probe the reasons behind the mishap.

“It’s difficult to say who is responsible behind the bus mishap. Once the probe gets over, things will be clear,” said Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.

Meanwhile, the SCB authorities said all the medical expenses of the injured will be borne by the hospital.

“A team of doctors has been formed who will monitor the health condition of the injured and expenses will be taken care of by the hospital as per the direction of the State government,” said Bhubanananda Moharana, emergency officer of SCB.

Earlier in the day, after visiting the SCB hospital Transport Minister Nrusingha Sahu said, "Only Transport dept can't be blamed for the mishap. All departments must work in coordination. A mishap is a mishap and a probe has been directed."

As many as ten persons, including 3 women, were killed after a bus travelling from Talcher to Cuttack fell off a bridge into the Mahanadi River bed in Cuttack yesterday evening.

Out of the 50 injured who were admitted to SCB following the mishap, 7 are in ICU and 35 have been admitted to the general ward. Eight injured have been shifted to private nursing homes by their relatives.
