BSF jawan from Odisha ‘commits suicide’ on duty

Gajapati: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, deployed on Odisha-West Bengal border allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a gun on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Sagar Goud of Jhiliki village under Mohana block of Gajapati district.

According to sources, the jawan shot himself with his service gun around 11:55 PM last night in Patiram village of West Bengal. While the family members of the deceased were subsequently informed about the incident, it is yet to be ascertained under what circumstances the jawan took the extreme step.

“The jawan committed suicide late last night and the reason is not clear. His body has been sent for post mortem,” said Deputy Commandant of BSF, West Bengal, Ranananda Jadhav.

Father of the deceased, Nrusingha Gouda, said, “We got to know about the incident through a phone call yesterday. We were told that my son died of bullet injury.”

While the body of the deceased has been sent for post mortem, a police investigation is currently underway.
