Berhampur: Taking stern note of rise in crime graph, the Ganjam district BJP unit has demanded introduction of Commissionerate Police system in Berhampur. The party has further threatened for agitation if their demand is not fulfilled by Odisha government in coming days.

While addressing a press conference yesterday, Ganjam district BJP president, Kanhucharan Pati alleged that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier announced that Commissionerate Police system will be introduced under Berhampur Municipal Corporation limits.

"Even after 11 years, the chief minister is yet to fulfil the promise made to the people of the district," said Pati.

Ganjam district Congress president, Trinath Behera on the other hand stated that as per government provision, Commissionerate Police system is a must under all municipal corporation limits. Even though Berhampur Municipal Corporation was established in 2008, the Commissionerate system is yet to be introduced here.

"Apart from Commissionerate police system, we also want Bhanjanagar to be declared as a separate police district," said Behera.

Meanwhile, statements of local BJD leaders could not be obtained on the demands made by the opposition parties.
