BJP, Congress plan to target BJD on its foundation day

Bhubaneswar: While the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) preparations for its 21st foundation day are on in full swing, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have chalked out their respective strategies to corner the BJD with the saffron party announcing a ‘Jabab Maguchi Odisha’ (Odisha Seeks Answers) campaign while the Congress has decided to observe the day as ‘Black Day’ in all the panchayats across the State.

Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik said that the party will observe December 26 as ‘Black Day’ protesting the attempt of the ruling-BJD to trample the rights of panchayat samitis. “By observing ‘Balck Day’, we want to make people aware how the constitutional rights of the panchayat samitis are being withdrawn,” said Patnaik.

On the other hand, the BJP said that the party will launch a campaign named ‘Jabab Maguchi Odisha’ tomorrow to create awareness among public about the rampant corruption in the State. “The BJP will work like a facilitator and make people aware about rampant corruption,” said State BJP general secretary, Prithviraj Harichandan.

The BJD had celebrated its 20th foundation day in Puri last year but this year, the party has decided to celebrate it at the grassroots level (zone, block and panchayat levels) keeping the 2019 polls in mind.

All eyes are now on BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who is expected to blow the election bugle on the occasion and it is also believed that he will give a befitting reply to Narendra Modi who targeted the State government during his visit to Odisha on December 24.

BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb today hit out at the Centre alleging step-motherly attitude towards Odisha. “Neither the Centre gave special state status to Odisha nor did it give announce any special package. How many promises has the BJP fulfilled in the past four and a half years? On the foundation day, we aim to make people aware of the promises (made by BJD) that we have fulfilled and will also highlight our achievements at the grassroots level.”
