Bhubaneswar: Anti-corruption voices within the ruling-Biju Janata Dal (BJD) surfaced after a protest rally was organised by party workers against Bhubaneswar North MLA, Priyadarshi Mishra at Baranga Chhak today.

Over 200 party activists staged demonstration and burnt Mishra’s effigy alleging his involvement in corrupt percentage commission (PC) practice in government projects.

“We have united as local MLA is more interested in collecting PC from contractors while residents are facing problems due to acute water crisis here,” said Bhubaneswar block vice-chairperson, Valentina Rout.

Sarpanch of Kalyanpur panchayat, Pravasini Sasmal stated that “People are facing problems and it is over 3 years that MLA has been telling us that a mega drinking water project will come up here.”

Bhubaneswar North MLA, Priyadarshi Mishra on the other hand refuted the charges.

“There is no scope of corruption as all the projects are being taken up through tenders. The matter will be investigated if locals have brought up corruption allegations in execution of projects,” said Mishra.
