Bhubaneswar: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said that All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) hospital here is likely to start functioning from July this year.

“The work is progressing well. So, hospital should be operational by June-July this year” Azad said.

Reviewing the construction work of the hospital at the state capital, Azad, who was accompanied by Odisha Congress in-charge Jagdish Tytler, interacted with the students of the premier institute.

AIIMS director Prof Ashok Mohapatra appraised the central minister regarding the tardy progress of hostel building which forced the students to stay outside. However, the union minister assured of giving priorities to coordination among different contract organizations who are entrusted with the construction work.

“The big problem is the construction of residential campus which is now at different stages. If two blocks (Type I &II) are completed within a month, we would shift the students to our own campus so that they can consume time for their study”, Mohapatra said.

The admission process into the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, had begun in August, 2012. The Centre had requested the state to arrange private flats to accommodate the students and staff on a temporary basis.
