Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday declared aid for farmers of 314 villages of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Nuapada districts who suffered 50% crop loss last season due to drought. This was informed by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Surya Narayan Patro in the state Assembly.  

“As per the Collectors’ crop-cutting report, it is observed that 314 villages of Balasore, Mayrbhanj, Bhadrak and Nuapada are drought-hit and the state government will compensate the farmers as per Relief Code,” Patro said.

In last March the state government had declared 13,032 villages of 19 districts as drought affected which suffered a crop loss of 50 per cent and announced a special package for farmers.

"The drought areas are spread over 133 blocks and 156 wards of 34 urban local bodies in 19 of the 30 districts of the state," Patro had said.

The Minister had said the state government announced a special package for affected farmers with agriculture input subsidy being enhanced.
