Bhubaneswar: With the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) struggling to deal with its decimation across the States including in Odisha, fresh reports suggest that the Committee is thinking of a major revival to steady the ripples within the party.

The AICC has decided to re-form the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in Odisha, informed the OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik today.

"The AICC has directed to form a committee comprising those members who worked for the party sincerely during the recent general elections. The process of formation of the new committee is likely to begin this month while there will be committees at the block-level only and not at the zone-level anymore. Right from the grassroots to higher-ups, every single thing would be re-formed," said Patnaik.

Senior Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, who is also in favour of a new committee, stated that the whole system needs a change and that AICC should trust State party chief.

'A thousand cats cannot kill a rat', is what Bahinipati said while stressing that the idea of having Zonal committee presidents and working presidents is absolutely unnecessary. "The working presidents along with AICC Secretary visited all villages and appointed a 100 Secretaries, 200 General Secretaries and as many as 300 vice-presidents, which actually led to the downfall of the party. The AICC should have complete trust on PCC chiefs, and for me, that's the only way Congress will revive or else it will fall apart . The way things are functioning right now should be changed," Bahinipati said.

The AICC President last month dissolved the PCC office bearers and all other Committes constituted for recently held Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha. However, the President and Working Presidents of Odisha PCC remained unchanged.
