Bhubaneswar: A five-year-old ailing boy lost his life while being taken to hospital reportedly after the ambulance got stuck in heavy traffic in Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, the minor boy was initially admitted to Capital Hospital where doctors referred him to SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack. However, after his condition started to deteriorate severely, his family members decided to admit him to a private hospital in Patia area of the city.
"Day before yesterday, my son complained of stomach ache following which we took him to doctor who gave him some medicines and an injection. But again he fell sick yesterday at 11 PM following which I took him to Capital Hospital where a doctor gave him another injection," said Nirad Nayak, father of the minor boy.
Later, the doctors referred him to SCB Cuttack but after his condition started to deteriorate they decided to admit him to KIIMS. However, due to heavy traffic the ambulance couldn't reach the hospital on time, informed sources.
It took around 1 hr 20 min for us to reach KIMS hospital from Capital hospital even in ambulance due to traffic congestion. “This government and politicians don’t have basic sense to construct a separate path for ambulance. If there was a separate route my son could have been saved," added Nayak.
Later in the day, another ambulance got stuck in traffic near Khandagiri Chhak in Bhubaneswar road while shifting a patient from AIIMS to SCB hospital in Cuttack.
Speaking on ambulances getting stuck in traffic in Bhubaneswar, Traffic DCP Sagarika Nath said, "Staff is regularly told to give priority to ambulance. At junctions we can manage, but between junctions, as a civilised society, it is each of our responsibility to make way for emergency services."
