Puri: Forest officials on Saturday rescued two endangered giant squirrels from Balinolia Sahi here.

According to sources, officials of Khurda forest range and Puri forest range jointly rescued the caged endangered species.

Subhendu Mallick, warden of Puri forest range, said, “The two rescued giant squirrels will be sent to Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar. Necessary steps will be taken after discussions with higher officials.”

“As these animals belong the endangered category, stringent action will be taken against the person who has kept them in a cage,” Mallick added.
