Malkangiri: A Maoist couple wanted in several violence-related incidents including the abduction of former Malkangiri collector R Vineel Krishna and carrying a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on their heads were arrested by police.

The couple, Bellam Narayana Swami alias Damodar and Gangi Madi alias Phulamoti, was arrested from Gudem area of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, said sources.

According to reports, Damodar, who was the secretary of Malkangiri area committee of Maoist for many years, was suffering from malaria and undergoing treatment in Gudem area. Acting on a tip-off,  Visakhapatnam rural police raided the area and arrested Damodar and his wife.

The interrogation of the Maoist couple by the police was underway at the time of filing of the report.

According to reports, the couple was involved in over 100 cases of violence including the attack on Greyhound boat in Balimela reservoir in 2008 in which 38 security personnel were killed.
