Baripada: A video purportedly showing an Odisha Police official negotiating bribe with a person for not conducting a raid at a murum quarry and to dispose of pending cases, has gone viral on social media.

The officer in dock is Biswal Kumar Routray, the inspector-in-charge of Badasahi Police station in Mayurbhanj district. Surprisingly, it appears that the video was recorded inside Routray’s official chamber at the police station.

The video purportedly shows Routray talking with a person who is ready to pay Rs 50,000 per month to the officer for not conducting raid on a murum quarry, disposing all pending cases and helping in establishing links with local tehsil officers. The person can be heard offering Rs 10,000 as advance as well.

It is still unclear under what circumstances the officer was trying to strike the deal and who uploaded and circulated the video on social media.

What is more surprising is the fact that another video of the same officer entering into a verbal duel with a sand miner has also gone viral on social media.

Despite several attempts, neither the concerned inspector-in-charge nor any other senior police officials could be contacted over the matter.
