Bhubaneswar/ Surat: It was like any other mass marriage ceremony. But for Minati Majhi of Odisha, the ceremony gave her the most precious thing in the world - the love and blessings of a father which she missed a lot.

Minati is fatherless and it was dream come true for her after she got father’s love from Mahesh Savani, an industrialist based in Surat who organised the mass marriage ceremony for 271 fatherless girls.

From doing the ‘Kanyadaan’ to other rituals, Mahesh has been looking after all the arrangements that go into arranging such a gala function. It is for the last several years that the businessman has been organising such mass marriage ceremonies for orphans and fatherless girls.

“When father’s support was needed the most, I did not have anyone. Later, I got the support and love from Mahesh ji,” said Minati.

Referring to the couples as his daughters and sons-in-law, Mahesh Savani said, “The mass marriage ceremony is organised for girls as per their religion and there is no discrimination.”

Mahesh further said he takes it as a social responsibility to extend help to the girls who have every right to live their lives in dignity. “I always try to look after every minute thing that a father would have done for his daughter,” said Mahesh.
