Bhubaneswar: Stating Bhuipnder Singh's decision to leave Congress and join ruling BJD as 'unfortunate', state Congress leaders on Friday asserted the development won't affect the grand-old party.
"It is very unfortunate. Congress has given him a lot. I don't know what led him to join the regional party," said Jayadev Jena, president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
He also exuded confidence Congress won't be affected with this. "They will never be benefitted as they have left the party for the sake of their own interests," Jena added.
The party’s campaign committee chief for Odisha and Union minister Srikant Jena said Singh’s departure would have no impact on Congress. “It will not affect the national party at all. It will harm him instead,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Bhakta Das lambasted CM Naveen Patnaik by saying the BJD proved what magnitude of horse trading they can undertake.
"For the last five years the Leader of Opposition had been in the pocket of Naveen babu and serving the latter's interest, Das added.
