Puri: A rare fishing cat also known as ‘Prionailurus Viverrinus’ was rescued after getting entangled in fishing net at Krushnaprasad block of Puri district. A local fisherman, Amulya Pradhan spotted the wild cat and informed the officials of the Forest department.

It is suspected that fishing cats, which are spotted near Chilika, might have got trapped in the fishing net during its search for food.

“Along with my sons, I had gone to Chilika for fishing when we spotted the wild cat struggling in the net. Though others also saw the animal, they did not take any action. Later, we pulled the animal on to our boat and informed the Forest officials,” said Pradhan.

As per reports, the wild cat has been released into the forest by the officials.
