Sambalpur: A Plus II student sustained multiple injuries after he was allegedly thrashed and tortured by his seniors and batch mates at Vedic International School on the outskirts of Sambalpur.

The victim, a Plus II first year student, was physically assaulted and tortured by three of his batch mates and a senior student inside the hostel on September 15.

“I was beaten up for talking to my cousin on mobile phone. They thrashed me with iron rods, plastic pipes. When I fell unconscious, they beat me after giving me glucose and water,” the victim alleged.

The victim has sustained multiple injuries, informed sources.

What is more surprising is the fact that the school authorities instead of admitting the student to the hospital administered simple home remedies and tried to treat the victim’s injuries with turmeric. This clearly suggests that school authorities wanted to suppress the matter by not admitting the victim student to the hospital, informed sources.

However, the matter came to light only after the student’s family members visited him at the hostel today. Later, the family lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident.

“I want justice as we had sent our child to this reputed school only after selling our property. Stern action should be taken against those involved,” said victim student’s mother.

Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh, on the other hand, informed that, “A case has been registered and the matter is being investigated on top priority. An additional SP rank officer is monitoring the probe and action will be taken against those found guilty.”

Despite several attempts, the authorities of the Vedic International School could not be contacted over the incident.
