Cuttack: All the six suspended police personnel, deployed to guard notorious gangster  Sheikh Hyder at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, hurriedly checked out of the hotel, where they were staying, late Tuesday night.

The development came following an OTV expose on their luxurious stay at Hotel Ahalya in Mangalabag in Cuttack despite being put on guard duty outside the gangster’s cabin at the hospital.

According to sources, constable Md Mousim had booked two rooms in the hotel on March 23 and all the six police personnel had checked into the rooms. However, the very next day, the booking for one of the rooms was cancelled and all the six started living in one room.

However, even after Hyder’s escape on Saturday, the policemen continued to occupy the room till last night when OTV busted them.

“The police personnel left the hotel at around 11.30 pm yesterday. Four of them came to the hotel late last night. They cleared their payment and left the hotel with their luggage. We have no clue about their whereabouts,” said an employee at the hotel.

Earlier on April 11, the Odisha Police had suspended the six police personnel including one havildar and five constables.

While the suspended havildar has been identified as Ramesh Chandra Dehuri, the constables include Bulbul Sahu, Deepak Sahu, Mohammed Mausim, Umakant Behera and Sudhansu Majhi, informed Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar.

Hyder had escaped from ward No.5 of the surgery ward of SCB after allegedly overpowering an APR guard who was on his security duty. He was lodged in Sambalpur circle jail and was shifted to SCB a couple of days earlier after undergoing preliminary treatment for some illness at VIMSAR, Burla.
