Paddy farmers finding no takers for Rabi season’s produce

Sonepur: Though Rabi season has passed and cultivation has started for the Kharif season, farmers of Sonepur district are yet to sell off their paddy harvested in the Rabi season.

With mill owners showing no interest in procuring paddy, the Rabi season’s produce is lying at the Regulated Marketing Committee (RMC).

At a time when farmers should be gearing up for the Kharif season, the picture at the Dharmsala RMC which is stacked with sacks of paddy reflects the misery of the farmers who are not being able to sell their produce.

Our produce has been lying at the ‘mandi’ since past one week and we are yet to find any takers, rued Benudhar Das, a farmer.

Meanwhile, Civil Supplies Officer (CSO) of Sonepur said that adequate storage arrangements have been made and the paddy will be procured soon.
