Bhubaneswar: The onion seed scam issue took a new turn on Monday after the Joint Director, Agriculture, Prabasee Sethi alleged that he has been threatened by the former managing director of Odisha State Seeds Corporation (OSSC) RS Gopalan over phone.

“The former director, while threatening me, asked me to think carefully before taking his name,” Sethi said.

Further, he stated, “I fear for my life. I might be attacked by the people or businessmen having the support of the ruling party. Therefore, I request the chief minister to give protection to me and my family.”

As per an audio tape, which is in possession of the OTV channel, Sethi was being told by a person on the other side to give statement on TV about Gopalan carefully. An excerpt of the conversation is mentioned below:

The person: Tell me why you did this against me?

Sethi: I have not done anything against you.

The person: I want to say you dragged me into this.

Sethi: I have not dragged anyone into anything. Why should I do anything like this?

The person: While giving statement on TV, give it carefully. I am not your enemy.

Sethi: I have been ruined and there is nothing left to it. I am yet to receive my salary since last two and half years.

Earlier, Sethi had told the mediapersons that Gopalan was involved in the onion seed scam.

Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena commented if there is any truth behind the allegation, definitely strict action will be taken against the person who had threatened. “The government will provide security to the official to ensure his safety,” Jena added.
