Bhubaneswar: In a bid to minimise students’ dropout, the School and Mass Education department is all set to implement new guidelines with effect from January 1, 2015.

School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra, secretary Usha Padhee along with other top officials and UNICEF held discussions regarding the enforcement of new guidelines.

The new norms states that if a student remained absent for more than a week, the class teacher would visit his guardian to enquiry the reason of absent.

Similarly, if the absence period exceeded more than 15 days, the school managing committee would meet the parents of absentees to find out the reasons. A student, who stays away from classrooms over a month, would be marked as dropout and he/she would have to enroll again to continue study.
