Low pressure to trigger rain in coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Some parts of coastal Odisha would experience rainfall under the influence of a low pressure formed off the Sri Lanka coast.

The local Met office, in a release here, has confirmed that a low pressure area has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast this morning under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over east Sri Lanka coast and its adjoining areas which extends up to 3.6 km above mean sea level.

The system is likely to be well marked during next 48 hours, it said.

Under its influence, rain and thundershower would occur at one or two places over coastal Odisha, the met office added.
However, talking to the media, director, Regional Meteorological Centre, Dr Sarat Sahu, said there is no immediate possibility of rainfall in Odisha under the influence of the low pressure.

“Some parts of coastal Odisha would experience rainfall only after October 30,” he added.

He further said there would be sporadic rainfall in the state due to the rise in the day temperature and more concentration of water vapours in the atmosphere.

“The low pressure would gradually move towards Tamil Nadu from where it would move up along the coast towards north-north-east and hit the South Odisha coast around October 31 or November 1. Under its influence, there would be rainfall in south coastal districts which will gradually spread to Balasore. The rainfall would continue from October 30 up to November 1,” he informed.

He also said as per the model indicator, though the low pressure, at present, has not intensified, there is every possibility that it might take the shape of a depression.
