Delang: Hundreds of angry locals ransacked Delang railway station in Puri district and torched one bogey of Puri-Barbil Express today.

The locals also damaged furniture and set fixtures on fire on the premises of the station.

"The people were restless following the death of the youth. They demanded compensation and staged a train blockade at the station. Since the railway department delayed in giving compensation, the people resorted to violence," Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik told mediapersons.

He, however, said the situation is under control now and asserted that action would be taken against the people involved in the violence.

Sources said the passengers of the bogey which was set ablaze are safe. Some long distance trains including Puri-Barbil and Puri-Howarh Express were detained at the station.

The incident took place following death of a local youth in the station after falling off a train yesterday.
