Bhawanipatna: The farmer suicide cases in the State has refused to die down with two more peasants committing suicide on Monday in Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts even as two other cases were reported from Balasore and Bargarh districts on Sunday.

Somnath Majhi of Pujipadar village under Narla block here had consumed poison on Sunday and was admitted to Narla hospital. However, he died a day after his admission for treatment.

Family members said he took the extreme step after losing mental balance over debt burden and massive crop loss.
Similarly, Dasaru Gauda of Ramasa village under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur was found hanging from a tree on Monday. Family sources said Dasaru was under severe mental stress due crop loss and loan burden. He might have taken the drastic step over the same matter, sources added.

Moreover, another farmer reportedly attempted suicide over crop loss and debt burden. According to sources, Sushil Patra from Khagatipali village in Dhanakauda block of Sambalpur, consumed poison allegedly over crop loss and debt burden.

Notably, two peasants of Balasore and Bargarh district on Sunday killed themselves. Tarani Pariha of Biripali village in Bargarh died at hospital after drinking poisonous substances. Similarly, farmer Paramanand Ghadei of Dahisara Nuagaon village in Soro of Balasore district took the extreme step by jumping in front of a running train.
