Bhubaneswar: Pinning hopes on South Korean steel behemoth Posco’s proposed Jagatsinghpur project, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday said he has sought an early intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion of ‘Business Standard Odisha Round Table 2015’ here, Patnaik said, “Indeed, the proposed Posco project is the largest FDI in the country. I certainly have not given up hope of its coming here. Recently, I informed the Prime Minister if the Union government could have a meeting at the Central level to resolve the Posco project.”
The Chief Minister further stated necessary steps would be taken regarding Polavaram issue, drought assistance and the special category status to Odisha keeping the interest of the State in mind.
On BJD’s stand about the Goods and Sales Tax Bill in the Parliament, Patnaik added, “My party supports the GST Bill because it is good for the State as well as the country.
Admitting that there has been a dip in revenue in mineral sector, the chief minister said, “The State government has planned to invest approximately Rs 1.70 lakh in next three years which will help generate 3.5 lakh jobs.”
Patanaik said, “We should eradicate the poverty in the state to a great extent through pro-people programmes, development, welfare (of people) and health education sectors.”
