New Delhi: The Land Acquisition bill was criticised by the Opposition including BJD over various amendments while being presented in the Lok Sabha today.

BJD MP Tathagata Satpathy said, “I always wonder development for whom? Is it for Adani, Ambani or superrich individuals?”

“Do not blindly support the bill as it would be against the good of many Indians, so withhold, withdraw and rethink upon it before pushing the ordinance into a law,” Satahpathy stressed.

He also drew attention of the House over his party’s election manifesto on different points such as panchayats must be consulted before acquiring lands, employment must be given to both boys and girls and finally both land losers and panchayats must be made shareholders of the proposed company or economic or commercial activities that would be set up on that land.

“The BJP government has failed in the last nine and half months, especially in land mapping like Congress in the past,” blamed the BJD MP.

Similarly, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said BJP took a U-turn in this case (Land Acquisition Bill) while adding the saffron party had than supported the UPA government in passing the bill. “But now the bill has brought many amendments,” added Scindia.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) termed the bill anti-poor and anti-farmer, while Shiv Sena said it would not support the bill.
