Bhubaneswar: The Accountant general has raised questions about the management of juvenile and correction homes in the State in its report to Home department.

A copy of the report which is in possession of OTV said enough space is not provided in the correction homes.

Undertrial and convicted juveniles should be kept separately as per the law. But the report added the State Women and Child Welfare department is not following the rules.

Due to the absence of vocational teachers, counsellors and experts, the inmates could not be rehabilitated after their release. Subsequently they get engaged in criminal activities, the report added.

Commenting on the findings of the AG, the department’s director RP Singh said, “We will implement tracking system to keep track on the inmates after their release.

Further he stated, “We have tied up with CDAC which is providing training on handicrafts to the inmates of correction homes. Efforts are on for their reintegration into society.”
