17 Women Rescued From Station While Being Trafficked

Berhampur: As many as 17 women including eight minors were rescued from Berhampur station while being trafficked to Andra Pradesh on Friday night.

Acting on a tip-off, the Berhampur sub-collector directed the local tehsildar who swung into action. The Tehsildar with the help of GRP rescued the women from the Station before handing them over to the child line. However, the middleman is absconding, sources said.

The women were brought on a false promise of providing jobs at a fruit juice company in Hyderabad, sources added. All of them belong to Salimgochha, Badagada, Chikiti, and Mahurakalia of Ganjam district.
