The list was, on Friday, published hours after the High Court had made it clear that admission for MBA, MCA and engineering courses in colleges of the state for the ongoing academic session will be made strictly as per the guidelines of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
Disposing a slew of writ petitions, a single-judge bench of Justice S C Parija made it clear that the court cannot interfere in the qualification criteria set by the AICTE.
With this high court order, the Odisha JEE, which in May this year had conducted entrance examinations for admissions into colleges and educational institutions for MBA, MCA and various engineering courses, may now go ahead with the admission processes.
As many as 25,000 shortlisted students, including 21,000 engineering aspirants had been waiting for the High Court verdict since last month.
The AICTE in January this year had come out with a guideline asking all its affiliated institutions to ensure that general students having less than 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and mathematics at Plus II level are not allowed to pursue engineering courses.
For reserved category students, the eligibility criteria were 45 per cent.
Accordingly, the OJEE prepared its brochure incorporating the AICTE guideline in March and conducted the entrance examination in May.
Subsequently, in June this year, the AICTE revised its eligibility criteria fixing a minimum of 40 per cent for reserved students and 45 per cent for general students.
Upset with AICTE`s late revision of eligibility criteria, many private engineering colleges of the State, including Odisha Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) approached the High Court seeking a fresh entrance examination to give another option for students already left out.
