Jajpur: Police on Wednesday arrested a man hailing from Panikoili area in the district for allegedly marrying for the third time without divorcing his second wife.

The accused, identified as Imran Khan, has been arrested from Jajpur-Bhadrak border today on the basis of a complaint lodged by his second wife Sabina Bibi.

According to sources, Imran had given 'talaq' to his first wife before marrying Sabina, who hails from Mangalpur area in the district. A few days after the marriage, he had gone aboard.

As per Sabina's allegations, her in-laws started torturing her demanding more dowry after her husband left. Unable to bear the torture, she left her in-laws’ house and started living with her parents. After some time passed, she learnt that Imran was marrying another woman in Korei area in the district on November 10 and reached the venue. She had a scuffle at the venue following which she lodged a complaint with the police.

She had also alleged that despite filing a complaint, Korei Police did not take any action. However, Police registered a case under sections 41, 294, 323, 506, 494 and 34 of the IPC after OTV highlighted the plight of Sabina, who had threatened to immolate herself in front of SP's office if justice is denied to her.

“He (Imran Khan) claims of having given me triple talaq through the local sarpanch. However, officially he has not divorced me. How will I and my daughter survive?,” Sabina had said while speaking to OTV.

Based on the complaint, police had arrested Sabina’s father-in-law Lal Khan and brother-in-law Muzafir Khan.

Apart from arresting Imran, the police have also detained her two sisters-in-law today.
