Bhubaneswar: There was no match-making as per zodiac signs, no dowry demand and even traditional rituals of marriage were not followed. Still the marriage ceremony of a couple in Bhubaneswar has now become the talk of the town.

Meet Arijit and Shivalika, who tied the nuptial knot by taking oath on the Constitution of India. Both Arijit and Shivalika were in a relationship and with their parents’ blessings they are now a married couple.

Interestingly, the entire marriage was solemnized in just 10 minutes. Both Ariji and Shivalika have expressed happiness about the simple marriage function that did not involve any kind of lavishness.

Odisha Rationalist Society has praised the young couple’s decision to organise their marriage in the simplest manner.

“We always promote such marriages as there is no burden on girl’s family. A middle class family faces numerous problems during marriage of their daughter. Bulk of their savings is lost in making all the arrangements starting from throwing a grand feast to following traditional rituals,” said Devendra Sutar, a rationalist.

Sutar further informed that the members of the rationalist society also do not promote observation of rituals after the death of a person. Rather, we encourage people to donate the body of their loved ones after their death for medical research.
