Bhubaneswar: Four Railway officials have been placed under suspension in connection with the derailment of Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) Express near Nergundi railway station in Cuttack on Thursday.

The train derailed after hitting a goods train on Thursday morning leaving as many as 16 passengers injured. Most of them were admitted for treatment at Cuttack SCB.

According to East Coast Railway (ECoR), the four officials identified as deputy station manager of Nergundi station, two drivers of LTT Express and the guard of the goods train have been suspended for dereliction of duty.

The railway authorities have ordered a high-level inquiry into the mishap to ascertain whether the train derailed due to poor visibility or any other reason. Abhai Kumar Rai, Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, Kolkata under the ministry of Civil Aviation will hold a statutory inquiry into the accident on January 18 at 10 AM at Cuttack.

The Railways has urged any member of the public having knowledge relating to this accident and matters connected therewith and desiring to give evidence may do so at above place on the date of inquiry. He or she can also write to The Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, 14- Strand Road,-12th floor, Koilaghat Street, Kolkata-700001, a release of the Divisional Railway Manager of ECoR, Khurda stated.
