Cuttack: The ongoing controversy surrounding BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty over his spat with neighbour Manjit Das has once again knocked the doors of Purighat police station in Cuttack. This time Das, a leader of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal, has lodged a complaint against the party MP for allegedly trying to defame him on social media.

Alleging that the MP is repeatedly spreading false information on social media, Manjit said, “The MP has tarnished my image in public by tweeting false information regarding me. In the post, MP had accused me as an antisocial, criminal, drunkard.”

Manjit further stated that MP Anubhav Mohanty should be booked under IT Act for misusing Twitter to defame me.

“The MP is misusing his power to defame me. I have not registered any criminal case against MP rather it is a defamation case. I will rake up the issue with district BJD president. I just want the MP to delete whatever he has posted on Twitter and seek an apology on the same platform,” Manjit added.

However, MP Anubhav Mohanty could not be contacted over the allegations levelled by Manjit.

It is pertinent to mention here that both Anubhav and Manjit are at logger heads even since the former took to Twitter alleging misbehaviour by police and inaction against his neighbour (Manjit).

Later responding to the allegations, Manjit had said that Anubhav harassed and misbehaved with him after he asked the MP not to park vehicle at his (Das’) place. “He (Mohanty) is exaggerating the incident. The way he has written on Twitter about the incident citing me as a criminal is unfortunate," Das had said.

MP Anubhav’s PSO subsequently had filed a written complaint at Purighat Police Station against Manjit alleging verbal abuse & threats.

Based on the complaint, Purighat Police had registered a case against Manjit under sections 341, 323, 294, 307 & 379 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on Anubhav’s allegations.
