Rayagada: In yet another incident of violence, Maoists set afire three vehicles including two tractors and one JCB machine on Friday night at Pajibali village under Muniguda police limits of the district.

Sources said armed Maoists attacked the camp of a contractor involved in construction of a village road and set the vehicles on fire.

The ultras had warned the contractor not to build the road as it would help movement of vehicles to Vedanta Alumina's refinery at Lanjigarh.

The posters which were left behind by the rebels mentioned the labourers should be paid Rs 200 per day as wages.

In a related development, Maoists have taken responsibility for the burning of a bus at Telerai Chhak under Kalimela police station of Malkangiri district.

Malkangiri divisional committee secretary Poonam Chand, in an audio tape, said the naxals resorted to this type of actions as bus owners were helping police in launching operations against Maoists.

Notably, on December 11, 25 miscreants burnt the private bus which was going from Kalimela to Balimela. However, no one was killed or injured in the incident as the ultras forced the passengers out of the vehicle before setting it on fire.
