Koraput: Maoists, who had kidnapped three people from Tolo Goluru village under Pottangi police station on Saturday night, killed two of them and released one, said IG South-Western range Yashwant Jethwa on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as former sarpanch Petili Taudu and Baldabai Seemalu whose bodies were found on the outskirts of the village. Baldabai Pati, the sitting sarpanch who was also abducted, has been freed by the Naxals, said Jethwa.
“The Naxals had kidnapped them suspecting the three villagers to be police informers,” added Jethwa.
Notably, the armed Maoists had attacked the village situated along Odisha-Andhra border and torched four motorbikes and a tractor on Sunday.
The Maoists had also left posters in the village claiming that the incident was a fallout of the March 4 incident at nearby Mungulivalsa village in which two Maoists were killed during an exchange of fire with security forces.
Meanwhile, after the incident the security personnel have intensified their combing operation in the area.
