Odisha Police ASI nabbed by Vigilance while accepting Rs 8,000 bribe to release bike

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha Police was caught red-handed by Odisha Vigilance on Saturday while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant for releasing a motorcycle.

The accused has been identified as Hrushikesh Biswal, ASI of Police at Anantapur Outpost under Soro Police Station in Balasore district.

According to Vigilance sources, Biswal had detained a complainant’s motorcycle in connection with a road accident on September 7. Since then, the complainant has been requesting the release of his vehicle.

However, Biswal allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to hand over the motorcycle. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the full amount, the demand was reduced to Rs 8,000.

Finding no other option, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a team of Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Biswal while he was allegedly accepting the bribe money. The entire sum of Rs 8,000 in tainted currency notes was recovered from his possession.
