In a major crackdown on illegal firecracker manufacturing, police seized a massive cache of explosives and firecrackers from Ichhapur and Baradabari villages under Khandapada police limits in Nayagarh district on Saturday.
Two individuals, Babaji Nayak of Ichhapur and Alok Kumar Nayak of Baradabari, were arrested for allegedly running large-scale illegal firecracker operations for several years.
During a raid on Babaji Nayak’s residence, police recovered 1,500 Nadiya bomb firecrackers, 140 packets of paper bombs, 1,850 tal photkas, 1,100 kumpis, and 15 cases of gunpowder, along with other explosive materials.
In a simultaneous operation, police raided the house of firecracker trader Alok Kumar Nayak and seized a significant stockpile of raw explosives intended for firecracker production.
Police said both accused had been under watch for their involvement in the illegal trade, which posed a serious risk to public safety. Investigations are ongoing to trace the wider supply network.
A case was registered at the Khandapada police station in connection with the seizures. Both accused were produced before the court following their arrest on Saturday.
According to reports, the raids were conducted jointly by Khandapada and Fatehgarh police to curb illegal firecracker manufacturing. With the upcoming festival season, authorities are actively raiding various locations across Nayagarh district to prevent unlawful production and sale of firecrackers, ensuring public safety.
