Koraput: Maoists gunned down one village guard in Dasmantapur village under Boipariguda police limits of Koraput district late last night. The deceased has been identified as Gourachandra Dalei.

According to sources, nearly 15 to 20 armed Maoists came to the village at around 10 pm when the villagers were busy observing sankirtan. The red rebels took the village guard away from the gathering and shot him two bullets at almost point blank range.

The group has left some Mao posters near the body that read the village guard was killed as they suspected him to be a police informer. BSF jawans have intensified search operations in the area following the incident.
