Koraput: The Maoists killed two persons suspecting them to be police informers and set ablaze at least five vehicles in the Koraput district, police said on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Bandhu Saraka and Gato Huika of Kumbhariput village under the Maoist-affected Bandhugaon police limits.
Around 100 Maoist operatives struck at Kumbhariput last night and dragged the two out of their homes and slit their throats. Maoist letters recovered from the spot stated the duo was killed for allegedly working as police informers, police said.
Later, the ultras attacked a construction site and set ablaze a truck, one road roller, two JCB machines and one grinder machine engaged in a road construction work, as they were opposing the road construction work.
"The deceased were not police informers. Investigation is on into their killings," said Koraput Superintendent of Police Awinash Kumar.
