Cuttack: The Inspector-in-charge of Energy police station here, Satyanarayan Rath, was suspended in connection with the death of CESU security guard, Krutibas Mohapatra, who died a week ago in police custody. Cuttack DCP S Praveen Kumar informed to the reporters regarding the suspension.
Mohapatra was arrested by Energy police on March 1 on theft charges and taken to police station for interrogation. In the police custody, he died due to alleged police excesses. Family of the deceased had alleged that the Krutibas died due to custodial torture while police refuted the allegation saying that the victim had consumed poison.
The war of words between family and cops had sparked controversy. Later, the Human Rights cell was entrusted with the charge of investigation.
