Cuttack: Residents of Cuttack`s satellite township at Abhinav Bidanasi here staged a `rasta roko` today by burning tyres on main thoroughfare protesting against what they called `indifferent` attitude of Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) towards their problems.

First it was members of Sector-6 Abasika Sangha which hit the roads and blocked the main road for three hours in the morning. Soon Congress activists joined them and paralyzed the traffic by burning tyres on the road.

The residents, however, relented when senior officials and engineers of CDA arrived at the spot and assured them that work to repair the roads and drains of the township would begin within 24 hours.

"Roads in entire satellite township have damaged beyond imagination," said the Abasika Sangha joint secretary Gadadhar Sahu adding that the drainage and sewerage system too were in bad shape.

He said the matter was brought to the notice of authorities several times before. Even the residents on two previous occasions had gheraoed the office of the CDA at Arundaya Nagar. But no work was done, Sahu added.

Residents however, have threatened that if the situation did not improve before the Dusshera next month, they would completely paralyze the functioning of CDA.
