Bhubaneswar: Close on the heels of the assault on an elderly woman by a police official in Puri, similar incident has now been reported from Bhubaneswar.

In the latest incident, a woman has been allegedly thrashed by Nayapalli police. A video of the victim with severe injury marks on her body has now gone viral on social media.

Though Nayapalli police refuted such allegations, Police Commissioner YB Khurania on Saturday said appropriate action would be taken after a detailed inquiry into the incident.

"I was not aware of such allegations before. An investigation will b carried out into the incident and action will be taken if the allegation is proved true,” said Khurania.

As per allegations, there was a clash between two groups over some land dispute in Nayapalli area on May 6. On receiving information, police rushed to spot and allegedly started beating people, including a woman of one group.

The woman, who had sustained serious injuries after being thrashed by the cops, uploaded some of picture of her injury marks on her body on social media.

On the other, the Nayapalli police refuted the allegations and made counter allegations against the woman.

As per Nayapalli police, when a team of cops had gone to the spot, the mob attacked the team including three lady Sub-Inspectors. Later, police registered an FIR and produced her before court for attacking cops on duty.

Meanwhile, Inspector-In-Charge of Nayapalli Police Station, Sangram Pattnaik has been transferred to Reserve Police after the allegations of assault on the two women. The two women Sub-Inspectors have also been transferred. On the other hand, Umakant Pradhan, who was the Additional IIC of Capital Police Station, has been given the charge of Nayapalli Police Station.
