Bhubaneswar: Barring sporadic instances of minor disturbances, student elections at colleges and universities across Odisha ended peacefully.

Soon after results were announced, rapturous scenes engulfed campuses with winning candidates and their supporters dancing to drum beats and distributing sweets. Some were also seen taking out rallies to celebrate their win.

“I would thank everyone who cast their valuable votes for me,” said Soubhagya Soumya Shree, the newly elected president of Ramadevi Women’s University.

A jubilant Rajat Kumar Parida, who was elected as the new president of Rajdhani College in Bhubaneswar said, “I will not let them down who have reposed faith on me.”

Among other winners at major educational institutions, Sapan Martha was elected president of Capital Law College in Bhubaneswar whereas Manoj Kumar Sahoo became the new president of Christ College, Cuttack.

Priti Priyanka emerged as the victorious presidential candidate of Sailabala Women’s College, Cuttack, while M.A Kash was elected president of Vikram Deb Autonomous College in Jeypore.

Voting began at 8 am and continued till 2 pm today. Oath taking ceremony for the elected representatives will be held on October 25.
