Bhubaneswar: Two days after Orissa High Court asked the State government to form a committee to regularly review law and order situation in the urban areas, Home special secretary Lalit Das today said that such a panel would be formed soon.

Das added the chief secretary will head the committee while the director-general of police (DGP), additional director-general (ADG) of Crime Branch, police commissioner, assistant police commissioners (ACPs) and deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) will be its members.

He further said a separate committee will be formed under the chairmanship of DGP to take disciplinary action against erring police officials. Similarly, another committee will be set up to recruit inspectors-in-charge (IICs) for the police stations in urban areas of the State.

Besides, to strengthen the security system, police checking will be done at the entry points of the urban areas from 10 pm to 7 am, Das said, adding that the plans will be implemented before July 6.

Notably, while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed after a daring robbery at the residence of retired HC judge P.K. Mohanty in CDA area of Cuttack last week, the court had directed the State government to form the committee.

The High Court had also asked the government to transfer the in-charge of Markatnagar police station, under whose jurisdiction the house falls, within seven days.
