Rayagada: In a tragic road accident, six persons including four children were killed on the spot and four others injured, when a speeding cotton-laded truck hit an auto-rickshaw near Kotapeta village in Rayagada district today.
As per sources, 11 persons of Gadisahkhal village of Kolanara block were on their way to attend a marriage party in the Kotapeta village, when a speeding truck coming from Rayagada ran over the ill-fated auto.
A team of police officials rushed to the spot and sent all 12 injured persons to the Rayagada district headquarters hospital, where conditions of four persons were found to be critical.
Following spread of the news, tension ran high and irate villagers staged a protest disrupting vehicular traffic on the road demanding compensation for the victims’ families, added the sources.
Police forces have been deployed at the spot to bring the situation under control.
